Root Skills

“If you have an interest in Bushcraft or have already started your journey down the Bushcraft trail, you will probably have realised that the study of Bushcraft can be very addictive.”

The Root Skills course aims to introduce you to many of the fundamental skills you will need as you tread the Bushcraft trail. These skills will allow you to enjoy your time in a wilderness environment with a minimal amount of equipment.

Under the expert guidance and supervision of your instructors, you will gain knowledge and practical skills that will give you the confidence to delve deeper into this fascinating subject. Throughout the five day course you will practice these skills and apply acquired knowledge.

By the end of the five day course you will view your surroundings with new eyes and be more aware of the importance and usefulness of our natural resources.

This course covers many skills and topics, so a reasonable level of fitness is required.

Shelters ( natural & contemporary )

FireLighting ( including friction fire-lighting )

Fire Lays

Outback Cooking

Wild Foods

Game Preparation

Snaring & Trapping

Introduction to Tracking

Improvised Fishing Techniques

Plant & Tree Identification ( including uses )

Carving Techniques

Cutting Tools Maintenance

Natural Navigation (including astro.)

Water Collection, Storage & Purification

Wilderness Safety & Hygiene

Kit & Equipment

The Psychology of Wilderness Living

Duration: 5 days (Sunday evening - Friday afternoon)
